Very disappointed in recent mail service. I understand that Ephrata office is understaffed. However, we recently requested a hod on our mail for two weeks with the ending date of 2/21. Today we went to pick up our mail and received a few pieces that probably would have been delivered today. We returned to the post office and had them recheck - nothing to be found. It turns out that they never stopped delivery. Fortunately, a kind neighbor drove by every other day and retrieved our mail.

This past Saturday I had a package delivered in the pouring rain. It was left on my front porch which is not covered. I was home all day and no one rang the doorbell which tells me the postal carrier just came part way up the steps to the porch and just threw the package onto the porch. I went into the Ephrata Post Office today and spoke with the postmaster who seemed to just want to put the blame on the company for not sending it in a plastic bag. While I agree with him on that issue the package should never have been left in the open in the pouring rain. That is just gross neglect. Who in their right mind would just leave a package out in the open in pouring rain, I did not find the package till I went out to check on the mail and by then the package was dripping wet and the paper back books inside the package were totally ruined.

I understand it's miserable to work in the rain. I worked in construction for many years. I have an office at 1248 West Main Street here in Ephrata and I just witnessed the postman open the drop box in front of our office, set it in the water puddle on the sidewalk with no covering, and let it sit thee for another 3- seconds while he cleaned out the mail in the drop box that had not fallen in the bin. In the process he dropped several pieces of mail on the side walk soaking those in water and at no time was there any effort made to keep the mail dry.
