I have been patronizing the South Orange post office for over 35 years. South Orange post office employees have always been friendly, courteous, and helpful, which made this post office the most coveted to go to for my postal services. Recently, I have had the most uninviting experience at the South Orange post office with a new addition to its staff. My first encounter with this counter clerk was one that was off-putting because of their loud, course, rude demeanor not only towards me, but towards other postal customers, I left the counter with my package and went to another post office to conduct my postal business. The second encounter I had with this South Orange post office employee was once again one of loud and aggressive speaking to a post office customer regarding the delivery of his mail. Listening to the aggressive, loud tone of this person speaking to the customer made the atmosphere inside the post office uncomfortable. The third encounter, I was met with the same uncuth, discourteous attitude from behind the counter unwilling to provide service because they wanted to take a break. Again, I left and took my business to another post office. I'd like to note that they were the only counter clerk present, and only myself and another customer were inside the post office waiting for service. With the high standards South Orange post office has always had, this person should not be interacting with customers because their behavior does not fit into the culture of South Orange's post office. No one should be subjected to this low level of service. This postal employees behavior will surely drive customers away and hold them back from realizing their full potential as a postal service employee. I hope the South Orange post office provides this employee with training or a refresher on how to interact with the public to provide excellent customer service.

Again, I had outgoing mail today. I'm on Academy Street. The outgoing mail was, again, NOT picked up. I was told that if I don't have INCOMING mail, my easily-seen-from-the-street outgoing mails will NOT be picked up. That's ridiculous and doesn't work for me. The carriers DELIVER mail AND PICK UP outgoing mail. That's the job. This has happened too many times. And you wonder why people complain about the Postal Service. Horrible service. Brad Stone

Saturday Dec 18, 2021. Posted hours said until 3pm. I arrived at around 2pm and the door was locked. Unhappy since I made a special trip to get there.

When I had shown to the USPS clerk, named Sheena, my filled form 2865, which is the return receipt for international mail, she said that she never saw that before and she does not know what is that about. When I asked for the form 3806, Registered Mail Receipt, in order to fill it there, the other clerk whose name I don't know said that they don't have any available. This happened on December 10, 2019. On November 27 I asked this other clerk with unknown name, to give me a form 3806, Registered Mail Receipt, to fill it home. She could not provide any, so I said OK, I'll take one when I'll come with my envelope ready. Between Nov 27 and Dec 10 nobody from the USPS of South Orange, NJ bothered to order this form 3806. But actually why I am so surprised, considering that the main hiring criteria in USPS is the Affirmative Action ?

Moved to Florida. Can’t get over how friendly and helpful the usps staff is....so unlike my south Orange experience. Night and day. Florida is also racially diverse, so it’s not that. The south Orange staff are just nasty and awful. Top to bottom. Suck.

I am continually amazed at the filth of the entrance & lobby of your facility! We expect more of South Orange!

Unfortunately the post office is not an independent operation unto itself. It's budget comes from the federal government. The USPS is often mistaken for a government-owned corporation (e.g., Amtrak) because it operates much like a business. It is, however, an "establishment of the executive branch of the Government of the United States", (39 U.S.C. § 201) as it is controlled by presidential appointees and the postmaster general.

Our elderly postal delivery man is truly awful. He misdelivers mail, argues with patrons and today walked off with a package.
