10/6/20: I just had the WORST exchange with a Public Servant, EVER. Dianne, who works at the Tellevast USPS was godawful! I have worked in public service myself...33 years military and 21 years with the Department of Transportation. I cannot IMAGINE being so ignorant and disrespectful!
My son and I went to the post office (during a rainstorm) at 4:28 to mail an important envelope to my daughter. My son ran in and dropped it in the mail chute, not realizing it needed postage. So after he got back to the car and I realized what he did, I went inside to pay (I intended on sending the envelope return receipt, but accidentally said I needed stamps...this detail is important later). There were still people in line, but then an employee (Dianne) advised me that they were closed (it is now 4:31) and had already locked the inside glass door. I advised her I just needed stamps, that it was an important envelope, could she PLEASE help me. She was visibly irritated and walked away. About one minute later she comes back, unlocks the door and proceeds to say, "I will do this for you ONCE, do not come back here in the future and expect me to let you in." I felt condescended to, but thanked her nonetheless, went to the counter and told her I'd like to mail this letter with a return receipt. Dianne retorted with, "NOW you want it return receipt? You said you just wanted stamps!" I was like, "FINE, then I'll just buy some stamps." She then accused me of raising my voice (yes, I was not happy, but I can assure you, I had not raised my voice), and shoves the envelope back to me and said she wouldn't wait on me. At this point we had a heated exchange, but I couldn't believe a USPS employee actually said "F*** YOU" to me, a paying customer! And yes, after she said that to me, I returned in kind. Not one of my finest moments, but seriously, this woman should NOT be working with customers!
I ended up taking my business to Federal Express. I might only be one person, but I can assure you, with Dianne's attitude, I am not the first person she has offended. Absolutely disgraceful.
This post office delays mail! They kept my first-class letter in Sarasota for 8 days before it went to Clearwater as addressed. I know this from USPS tracking number.
