About two months ago, early June 2021, I had a package of documents I was sending off to Medicare, and the documents had a deadline. If I missed it, I might not receive compensation for the fees I had paid a physician outside of Medicare’s network. It was almost 5:15 p.m. on a Friday when I arrived at the Harvest Post Office on Murphy. I knew the Office closed at 5:00 o’clock, of course, but I entered the anteroom with all the drop and private p.o. boxes just to check. Sure enough, the door to the main room was closed. Sometimes, though, I knew that they leave it unlocked. I tried. Nope, it was locked. Suddenly, it opened in front of me, and a customer exited. I slipped in the open door, saw a brief queue of about four people, and took up position five. “I saw you!” shouted a woman from behind the counter. Caught. Embarrassed. I couldn’t make my voice work. The woman was tending to a customer’s box in front of her. With a nod of her head and flick of her hand (and a bit of a grin), she told me to stay in line – she would make sure my package made today’s mail. What made this moment larger than just an unusual act of generosity – after all, I was taking her time, time for which she would not be paid, during which she would not be with family, a sacrifice she was making so that I would not have to spend my time on a return trip – was that it occurred during that hideous spate of bigoted assaults on elderly Asian women. The woman who was so generous with me was Asian. I am an old white guy. I don’t know if any of that cultural matter crossed her mind. She let me in so quickly, so reflexively that I think probably not. I think she probably would have generously given of her time no matter my age, my gender, or my race. The Harvest Post Office is a very good place, the kind of place that the poet Robert Frost may have had in mind when he wrote, “Earth is the right place for love.”

I am currently at a military base oversees, but will be moving back to US (Irvine, CA) in mid-January and would like to open a P.O. Box so I can provide a forwarding address and forward my mail to Irvine before I leave my current location. Will I be able to purchase & open a 3 to 6 month PO box at this location (online)?

If I want to complain a mailman who didn't put my mail in the mailbox, he put anywhere he wanted and let the wind blew my mails away. May I have email addresses so I can attach some pictures. I have been living here over 35 years and never got this problem untill new mailman service this route.
